J. Fitzgerald Group, an advertising and marketing agency based in Lockport, promoted Jason Hughes to art director. Hughes, an illustrator in both traditional and digital mediums, has served as graphic designer at the agency for more than two years. He is a graduate of Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Mich.

Lumsden and McCormick, certified public accountants, appointed Eric Kingsbury an accountant. Kingsbury has eight years of experience in public accounting, most recently with Simpson Kling Quarantill and Frosolone. He is a graduate of Brockport State College.

Burden, Gulisano Hickey member Donna L. Burden was reappointed chair of the Defense Research Institute Trucking Law Committee. DRI is a national organization of more than 22,000 defense trial lawyers and corporate counsel.

Alternative Fuel Boilers, the Chautauqua County-based manufacturer of Econoburn wood gasification boilers, named Mark Odell vice president. Most recently, Odell was corporate sales engineer at ECR International. He is a graduate of Fredonia State College.

Niagara Bulk Service of Lewiston recently won the New York State Motor Truck Association Compensation Trust's special award for achieving an accident-free workplace for 13 consecutive years. The Trust is a self-insurance group of fleet operators created under the New York Workers' Compensation Law.

The Amherst Chamber of Commerce honored National Grid with the 2007 Business of the Year Award in recognition of the company's hard work, dedication and response to the Western New York community during the 2006 October storm. Commitment to Excellence award recipients were: Community Service, J.P.
