Man gets prison for assault on officer

A Gowanda man convicted of assault that injured a police officer was sentenced to prison in Cattaraugus County Court on Monday.

Michael L. Strawder was sentenced by Judge Larry M. Himelein to serve two years in prison for his conviction of second-degree assault July 21 in the Town of Persia when he injured a police officer.

District Attorney Edward M. Sharkey said Strawder, 31, also was sentenced to serve from one to three years in prison for his conviction of second-degree attempted assault of another police officer while being arrested.

Gregory K. Koontz, 54, of Franklinville, was sentenced to 35 days in the county jail, already served; five years' probation and restitution for his conviction of third-degree grand larceny and second-degree attempted forgery in 2006 in Franklinville.

Franklin W. Hoff, 30, of Olean, was sentenced to five years' probation including 100 hours of community service and fined $3,000 for his conviction of driving while intoxicated April 8, 2006, in the City of Olean. He was driving with a blood-alcohol level of .22 percent, nearly three times the legal limit.

Paul M. Deuschle II, 39, of Springville, was sentenced to five years' probation and fined $3,000 for his conviction of DWI Aug. 11, 2006, in the Town of Ashford.

Sharkey said several others pleaded guilty and will be sentenced early next year.

Jodie D. Emerling, 27, of Delevan, pleaded guilty to DWI, driving without a license and second-degree attempted forgery Dec. 20 in the Town of Yorkshire.

Sharkey said she attempted to forge her sister's name on a fingerprint card after being arrested.

Joshua A. Jimerson, 23, of Salamanca, pleaded guilty to DWI and driving without a license July 6 in the City of Salamanca.

Brian A. Williams, 36, of Bradford, Pa., pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and DWI Nov. 24 in the Town of Carrollton.
