Santa Claus to arrive with parade Friday
OLEAN -- The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce's Santa Claus Lane Parade will head right down Santa Claus Lane, starting at 7 p.m. Friday on North Union Street, near the Burger King restaurant. The street will close at 6 p.m. for the event.
Seven awards will be presented after the parade. The Bent Brass Ensemble will perform at 6:30 p.m. near Blue Bird Square. At 4 p.m., artwork from area students will be on display in City Hall. The extravaganza will end with fireworks.
Book-signing event features local authors
More than 20 local authors will be on hand to autograph their books and talk to readers in the Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society's annual Shopstravaganza book signing from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 in the society's Pan-American building, 25 Nottingham Court.
Among the authors taking part are Christina Abt, "Chicken Wing Wisdom"; Jim Charlier and Elizabeth Licata, "Garden Walk"; Frank Croisdale, "Buffalo Soul Lifters"; Dan Murphy, "The 101 Greatest Moments in Buffalo History"; Joseph P. Ritz, "I Never Looked for My Mother"; Erno Rossi, "Crystal Beach: The Good Old Days"; and Mason Winfield, "Haunted Places of Western New York."
Shoppers also will be invited to view the running of the Rail Barons model train display on the museum's lower level. The display features 100 scale-model Western New York buildings and a miniature Erie Canal lock.
