A new workers' compensation preferred provider organization has received approval from the state Department of Health to offer services in Erie County.
Regional physicians practice Lifetime Health Medical Group unveiled its BusinessWorks PPO in July, but only received certification from state regulators recently. The service is now up and running, providing medical management of each workers' comp case.
The PPO says its integrated care model -- combining the insurance side with the provider side under one roof -- can help employers reduce their costs while getting employees back to work sooner.
BusinessWorks operates by quickly linking injured workers with physicians. A nurse case manager serves as a single point of contact among employees, employers and third parties, and oversees all aspects of the patient's care. And employers can access information about their workers' care through an online service so they can plan for the employee's return.
Lifetime Health, besides being a doctors group, is owned by Rochester-based Lifetime Healthcare Companies, which also owns Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield and Univera Healthcare. The company has operated an identical program in Monroe County for more than a decade.
Lifetime Health has seven medical centers in the Buffalo area and four in Rochester. For information, call (585) 339-4038.
