Tina M. Salhany, a former day care operator, died Sunday under the care of Niagara Hospice after a long battle with cancer. She was 47.
Friends and family held a fundraising auction for the family in her honor two weeks ago.
The former Tina Scarfone, a 1978 graduate of Niagara Falls High School, had been diagnosed with cancer of the appendix, which had spread to her stomach and intestines.
Her brother, Kenneth Scarfone, said his sister was too sick to attend the fundraiser, which he called "a beautiful event, with a line at the door all day long."
"It was like a family reunion," he said.
Mrs. Salhany had operated a day care center and had worked in the physical therapist office of Dr. Herbert L. Ratajazk prior to her illness. She also enjoyed cooking and sharing the Gospel with friends.
In addition to her brother, she is survived by her husband of more than 19 years, James J.; four sons, Nicholas J., Benjamin J., Michael P. and Christopher J.; and three sisters, Gina Mollosky, Julie M. Brierly and Lorraine "Lorre" Buchman.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Niagara Frontier Bible Church, 5287 Bronson Drive..
