Sherman man faces slew of traffic charges
RIPLEY -- A Sherman man was facing a variety of charges early Saturday after he drove off a road, veered into a ditch and left the scene of the accident, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies responded at 12:30 a.m. to a report of a car crash on Northeast Sherman Road and found a vehicle in a ditch. A deputy who reached the driver of the vehicle at his home said the driver told him he planned to go to Westfield Hospital to seek treatment.
Deputies, however, intercepted the driver at the hospital and charged Justin K. Kopta, 23, of Miller Street, with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving with an open container of alcohol, failure to maintain a driving lane, driving with an expired inspection sticker and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident.
