Fall harvest

Better hurry for this one. A wine dinner, planned around the products of the season, is on the schedule at the Shango Bistro & Wine Bar, 3260 Main St. Chef Jim Guarino is cooking, and wines will come from Ibanez Pleven Offerings.

On the menu: Peppercorn-crusted Colorado Buffalo Sirloin with Sweet Potato and Sage hash; Roasted Figs on Arugula; Foie Gras-topped Sea Scallops; and Apple and Cinnamon Beignets.

And if you're still hungry, make note of another wine and food pairing dinner, this one to be held at Daniel's, 174 Buffalo St., Hamburg, at 5 p.m. Nov. 18. The menu includes Fried Oysters with Remoulade Sauce; Butternut Squash Ravioli; Duck Breast with Root Vegetables; Salmon Quenelle; Braised Beef Cheeks; and Caramelized Apple Tart with Camembert.

The Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo and Erie County will present Coffee & Chocolate from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Shea's Smith Theatre and Intermission Lounge, 658 Main St. The event to benefit programs and services at Literacy Volunteers includes a raffle and silent auction of gift baskets.
