Can you plan a flash party?
It's kind of a paradoxical question, but if you're the Essex Arts Center, you can apparently do it weeks in advance, spinning that urban dictionary definition -- "A social gathering on an 'off night' of the week, usually at a bar or someone's house/apt., that starts out small but suddenly, unintentionally and randomly reaches critical mass and turns into drunken mayhem." -- right on its head.
While there's no drunken mayhem explicitly planned for the evening, a cool $35 ($40 at the door) gets you in to partake of wine, beer, a collection of live music from Buffalo band The Ifs, go-go dancers, film and music from some yet-unspecified area DJs. The flash bash gets under way at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Essex Arts Center (30 Essex St.), with proceeds from the evening to benefit the Ashford Hollow Foundation, which operates the center as well as Griffis Sculpture Park in Ashford Hollow.
