Fowler's Chocolates, a brand with 106 years of tradition in Buffalo, has expanded into the Rochester area with the opening of two retail stores there.
The effort marks the second time the North Buffalo company has expanded into Rochester, after a previous push in the 1990s fizzled out for lack of sales.
"We have a different strategy, a better approach and better locations this time," said owner Ted Marks.
The new Fowler's stores are in the Rochester suburbs of Pittsford and Webster, where opening promotions are launching this week.
While the company may have some name recognition in Rochester, it will have to rely on its products and marketing to build sales in the new market, Marks said.
"It's all about the chocolate and the customer service," he said.
The Original Fowler's Chocolate Co. operates six locations in the Buffalo area, with 75 full- and part-time workers.
