DOT postpones hearing on railroad crossing
This week's public hearing on a proposed railroad crossing in the Town of Tonawanda has been postponed, the state Department of Transportation announced Monday.
A postponement was requested by NRG Development Co. of New Jersey, owner of the Huntley Station. The proposal is for a three-track rail spur over River Road. The hearing had been scheduled for Thursday.
The Huntley Station is the State Power Authority's "conditional choice" for a $1.5 billion clean-coal power plant.
Comerford to head hospital security
Former Erie County Commissioner of Central Police Services Kevin J. Comerford has been appointed to head security operations at Erie County Medical Center.
Comerford was selected to serve as the hospital's director of security and safety management following a national search by Erie County Medical Center Corp. officials.
He will oversee all security operations and security staff at the 65-acre medical campus.
Comerford, 65, served as commissioner of Erie County central police services since 1999. Before that, he was a Buffalo police officer, having served in the Patrol Division as a lieutenant, captain and inspector.
