Burglar gets 2 to 4 years in state prison
LOCKPORT -- Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Sperrazza last week sentenced a burglar to state prison for two to four years.
Lawrence R. Humphrey, 32, of Goulding Street, Buffalo, had pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted third-degree burglary for stealing an Xbox game unit from his estranged girlfriend's apartment in Jordan Gardens in Niagara Falls on Feb. 8. Sperrazza's sentence was the maximum for the charge.
Cayuga Island man, 21, badly beaten in Falls
NIAGARA FALLS -- A 21-year-old Cayuga Island resident suffered head injuries Saturday when he was attacked outside a 74th Street home, police said.
The victim was visiting two women at that address, which attracted unwanted attention from two other men, according to police reports. The men circled the home in their vehicle throughout the evening, finally striking the victim with their car when he came out to investigate, police said.
The two suspects then exited the vehicle and kicked the suspect repeatedly in the head, leaving him lying in the street at 3:15 a.m. He was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and was being checked for a possible concussion, as well as possible internal injuries.
Restroom fires probed at Trott Center in Falls
NIAGARA FALLS -- Investigators are probing a series of restroom fires at the Trott ACCESS Center on 11th Street, the most recent of which caused an estimated $500 damage Friday afternoon.
Employees of the facility handled fires on Monday and Tuesday of this week, but called out fire investigators when another restroom garbage can blaze broke out around 2:35 p.m. Friday.
Arson is suspected in each of the fires, none of which resulted in any injuries and in only minor damages.
