Grand jury indicts man in '03 warehouse fire
A Progressive Avenue man was indicted by a federal grand jury on arson charges Friday in connection with a huge fire at a Black Rock warehouse April 15, 2003.
Richard Toczek, 40, was charged with felony counts of arson and conspiracy related to the three-alarm fire at a warehouse at 260 Chandler St.
The U.S. Attorney's office said Toczek was charged after a lengthy investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and members of the Buffalo Fire Marshals office.
Police believe the warehouse fire, which caused at least $250,000 in damage, was ignited to cover evidence of a burglary.
Toczek, who has worked as a laborer, also was recently charged by the Erie County district attorney's office with an arson on Austin Street, prosecutors said.
