>Start on court building awaits construction pact
NIAGARA FALLS -- City leaders met again in an hourlong closed session Thursday afternoon to discuss ongoing negotiations over a construction contract and purchase agreement for a new court and police building.
Construction on the planned three-story public safety building on north Main Street cannot move forward until a deal is reached between the city and the developer, a team led by Ciminelli Development Co. and Largo Real Estate Advisors. Mayor Vince Anello said negotiations will continue today.
The developer has warned that the estimated $45.1 million cost of the facility could rise if the contracts were not in place by Thursday. The state Office of Court Administration has threatened to withhold state aid if the project stalls.
