>Little league football, women's club awarded grants

The David J. Shenk Foundation has announced Boston Patriots Little League Football & Cheering and the Southtowns Women's Friendship Club are the recipients of its 2007 grants.

The Boston Patriots will use $360 to purchase stand-alone blocking bags for practice equipment.

The Women's Friendship Club will receive $350 to purchase novelty items it puts in welcome bags for new residents.

The 14-year-old foundation is funded by Shenk, the Boston town clerk.


>Radio show seeks teens interested in news media

"YGB," the news and public affairs radio show produced by "young, gifted and black" Buffalo area high school students, has openings for teens interested in learning about journalism and becoming reporters for the show.

Interested teens between the ages of 14 and 18 should write a one- or two-page essay on why they want to be a YGB journalist or on the importance of media to the community and send it to: Buffalo Association of Black Journalists, P.O. Box 736, Ellicott Station, Buffalo, NY 14205.

The one-hour show, which airs at 6 p.m. the first Saturday of each month on WHLD 1270-AM, is also now online.

>Historical society plans Martin Luther tribute

BERGHOLZ -- The Historical Society of North German Settlements in Western New York will honor Martin Luther's birthday with a Medieval celebration at 5 p.m. Nov. 10 in Holy Ghost Lutheran School, Niagara Road and Luther Street.

Attendees will experience foods of the early 1500s and entertainment including singing, skits, a juggler and a recorder quintet, and members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a group that dresses in Medieval and early Renaissance styles, will prepare much of the food and deliver the entertainment.
