Marvin Hamlisch is back! At 8 p.m. Saturday in Kleinhans Music Hall, he'll be conducting the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra in a night of song called "New York, New York."
The concert promises to be a treat for jazz fans as well as Broadway fans, because Hamlisch's special guest is singer Darius De Haas. One of the stars of "Ain't Misbehavin'," De Haas is known as a jazz singer as well as a stage presence. Jazz Times called his disc "Day Dream" "one of the best Billy Strayhorn salutes ever captured on disc."
The program includes music from Bernstein's "On the Town," Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" and also "Les Miserables." Also featured will be the St. Joe's Swing Choir.
As of late Thursday, a few standing-room and balcony tickets remained. For more information, call 885-5000.
