Batavia woman injured in one-car crash

A Batavia woman suffered a serious head injury at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday when a car she was a passenger in crashed into a tree on North Road in the Town of Alden, Erie County sheriff's deputies said.

Pamela Palaszynski, 21, was listed in serious condition in Erie County Medical Center.

The driver of the car, Merissa McGill, 21, of Batavia, and another passenger, Richard Wesser of Buffalo, escaped injury. The car was eastbound at the time of the crash, deputies said.

Alcohol was involved in the accident, and charges are pending, sheriff's deputies said.

However, a Darien Center man in another vehicle at the crash scene who used his cell phone to summon help was arrested, deputies said.

Robert C. Brueckman II, 25, was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana. Deputies noted Brueckman was convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2004 in the Town of Darien.

Man leaving his home is robbed at gunpoint

A Herkimer Street man was leaving his home at about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday when he was robbed at gunpoint by two men, police said.

The victim was confronted by a man who placed a handgun to his side, according to Northwest District police.

Police said a second man, armed with a shotgun, got out of a white Dodge Caravan and approached the victim. The first gunman stole the victim's backpack from inside his vehicle.

Police said the two gunmen then fled in the van, which was driven by a third man.

The getaway vehicle drove south on Herkimer and then west on Auburn Avenue.
