Tribe shuffles Buffalo's deck

Well, the shoe dropped Friday in Cleveland. Here's the quick recap: Kenny Lofton was reacquired in a trade from Texas (for Class A catcher Max Ramirez), pitcher Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco were optioned to Buffalo, pitcher Ed Mujica was called up from Buffalo, and Herd shortstop Hector Luna was designated for assignment.

Lee will start for the Herd next week in Syracuse. The Indians don't have to fill his spot right away because they have an off day next week but it appears Aaron Laffey will get a start for the Tribe Aug. 4 in Minnesota. Francisco has yet to report to the Herd and he may not because I still think he may be headed to Kansas City in a deal for reliever Octavio Dotel.

Luna, thankfully, can take his 21 errors somewhere else. Hopefully, that opens the door for Asdrubal Cabrera to rejoin the Herd from Double-A Akron, where he is hitting over .300 and playing a flawless shortstop. Cabrera was terrific in the field here in the second half of last season and just needed a little more work with the bat. He's done that and the Bisons desperately need the defensive lift he can provide.

John Koronka is the starting pitcher for the Bisons tonight in the homestand finale against Charlotte. Here's the Bisons' lineup:

  • Trent Durrington, lf
  • Joe Inglett, 2b
  • Luis Rivas, ss
  • Ryan Mulhern, dh
  • Keith Ginter, 1b
  • Andy Marte, 3b
  • Mike Rose, c
  • Brad Snyder, rf
  • Jonathan Van Every, cf
