Fredonia School Board honors former Superintendent Doino

Former Fredonia School Superintendent Rocco "Rocky" Doino was honored Tuesday evening by the Board of Education, which presented him its "Friend of Education" award.

Doino, who holds a doctorate, served the school district for more than 30 years in various capacities, including as a teacher, high school principal and then district superintendent.

Paul DiFonzo, current superintendent, said Doino has been a valued mentor to him for the past five years. Doino received a standing ovation.

The board also approved the appointment of Stuart Struther as senior microcomputer technical support specialist, at a salary of $70,000 a year. The position is civil service.

Joseph Reyda will temporarily leave his position as assistant high school principal to fill in as interim administrator of grants management and professional development while Julie Garvey, who holds the position, is on leave. The salary is $82,000 a year.

William Fleckenstein becomes interim assistant high school principal to fill in for Reyda, at a salary of $70,000 a year.

The board meets again at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 in the high school library.
