St. Bonaventure University announced Saturday that NBA Hall of Famer and Bona legend Bob Lanier is coming to Olean for a full weekend of Bonnies-related events in October -- highlighted by the dedication and naming of the new Reilly Center floor as the "Bob Lanier Court."
Lanier, the Bennett High graduate who was a consensus All-American on Bona's 1970 Final Four team, will attend the court dedication on Oct. 12. The next day, he will participate in an Bona alumni legends game (the first contest on the new floor) and attend the season Tip-Off Gala that evening.
The court is currently being rebuilt to replace one that dates to the early 1990s. The project is being spearheaded by a $200,000 gift from Bona alums Lisa and Samuel Molinaro of the classes of 1982 and 1981, respectively.
"October 12th will be an extremely humbling day in my life," Lanier said in a statement through the school. "It's a great honor to have something like this happen to me. For Lisa, Sam and the other alumni who made this possible to think I was the right person to name the court after is an amazing honor."
The weekend will mark the first official events leading to the start of practice under new coach Mark Schmidt.
