LOCKPORT -- A series of gift basket raffles, with proceeds to benefit the Buffalo Zoo, are being held monthly through September at Countryside Veterinary Clinic, 6038 Old Beattie Road.

Fourteen baskets are available in the July drawing, including themes ranging from pet products to Halloween, beauty products, purses and a throw. Tickets, sold only at the veterinary office, are $1 each or six for $5.

The drawings will be held at the end of the month, and a new batch of baskets will be offered in August and September.

>Vote set on longer terms for supervisor, tax post

WILSON -- Town voters will decide whether to extend the terms of office for the town supervisor and tax collector from two to four years when the issue appears on the November ballot.

The Town Board adopted a local law last week changing the terms of office, paving the way for the mandatory referendum in November.

The vote followed a public hearing in which the majority of those speaking were in favor of extending the terms.

Supervisor Joseph A. Jastrzemski is up for re-election to a second term this fall and Tax Collector Julie Godfrey has announced she will run for a full term. She was appointed last year to fill the unexpired term of Kathleen Dixon.

These are the only two elected positions in Wilson town government that are still two-year posts.
