OLAF FUB SEZ: According to the late gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, born on this date in 1937, "I have a theory that the truth is never told during the nine-to-five hours."

ART HISTORY -- The spotlight will be on our less-explored cultural treasures from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday in "Western New York Art Revealed: A One-Night Vintage Fine Art Show and Sale" in Michael Donnelly Interior Design, 1534 Hertel Ave., across from Kostas Restaurant. Admission is free.

Presented by 20th Century Finest, which specializes in area artists from the first three-quarters of the past century, it will feature about 50 artworks by the likes of Virginia Cuthbert, Alex Levy, Martha Visser't Hooft and James Vullo. Prices range from $350 to $10,000 (for a Cuthbert).

Of special note, says 20th Century Finest's Dean Brownrout, are items by Rochester artist James Havens; prints by Kevin O'Callahan, founder of the Buffalo Print Club; and three works by James Koenig, husband of the artist Catherine Catanzaro Koenig.

"I think a lot of people are going to be surprised," Brownrout says. "One of the things people around here aren't quick to realize is what wonders they have in their own backyard. This is why dealers from other parts of the country have been coming here and buying our historical art."

CHICKEN PLUS -- Chicken and ribs by BW's Barbecue will be featured from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, Route 5 and Old Lake Shore Road, Lake View. Meanwhile, Church United Church of Christ, 1335 Clinton St., will host a chicken barbecue from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, followed by a kids' "stay-n-play" session from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Dinners with a quarter Weidner's barbecue chicken, macaroni salad and baked beans are $7, $5.50 presale.
