Kathy Hunt is in good position to capture her first Buffalo District Golf Association women's individual championship since 2003.
The Brookfield Country Club golfer shot a 1-over-par 73 Tuesday at Fox Valley in Lancaster to take a six-stroke lead into next Tuesday's second and final round of the BDGA championship, also at Fox Valley.
Defending champion Lindsay Cornell of the host club is six strokes back at 79 along with Mary Kraus of Bridgewater CC. Cornell just completed her sophomore year at Xavier University.
Hunt was third last year and second in 2004 after winning the championship in 2003, the same year she captured the State Senior Women's Amateur.
Kari Kaul of Gowanda CC is fourth with an 80 while 16-year-old Natalie Wisniewski of East Aurora is fifth with an 81. Former champion (2005) Kim Kaul of Gowanda is sixth with an 84.
