Punch injures bar patron; Akron man, 37, arrested
An Akron man was charged with punching a bar patron early Sunday morning on Hertel Avenue.
John J. Tolley, 37, of Barnum Road, was charged with second-degree assault, which occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in Gabel's Lounge and Restaurant, 1285 Hertel, according to Buffalo police reports.
The victim suffered a deep chin laceration and sought medical treatment, according to reports.
2 charged with stealing bike, beer from neighbor
Two Riverside men were arrested Sunday and accused of stealing a bike and beer from a neighbor.
Michael Surman, 29, and David Surman, 27, both of Gallatin Avenue, are accused of entering a neighbor's house Saturday and taking a silver mountain bike and a dozen beers, according to Buffalo police.
The two are also accused of exposing themselves and making a rude comment before threatening the neighbor, police said.
Both were charged with second-degree burglary, petit larceny, second-degree harassment and public lewdness. The older Surman also was charged with second-degree menacing for threatening the neighbor with a meat thermometer, police said.
Firebombs in market fail to ignite; 3 men sought
Three men tossed four Molotov cocktails into an East Side market early Sunday, but none of them ignited, police said. No damage was reported.
Police and fire investigators are looking for the three men, who were spotted running from Zach's Market, 1 Alma Ave., shortly after the incident.
Northeast District police said the three threw the Molotov cocktails through the front door of the store at about 12:20 a.m. Police believe the incident was recorded on the store's surveillance videotape.
Four years ago, a fire in the same building killed a 5-year-old girl.
On July 14, 2003, Larena Brown was found dead after a fire erupted in her family's second-floor apartment. A child playing with fire was thought to have caused that blaze.
Shooting victim listed in fair condition at ECMC
A Buffalo man is listed in fair condition Sunday after he was shot Saturday night on the city's East Side.
Thaddeus Garner, 45, of Sumner Place, suffered a gunshot wound to his right buttocks. He was treated in Erie County Medical Center.
Ferry-Fillmore District police said Garner was shot at about 9:50 p.m., but the exact location of the shooting remained unclear.
Man, wife arrested after domestic dispute
NIAGARA FALLS -- A man and a woman involved in an early morning domestic incident were arrested Sunday, the man for allegedly assaulting his wife, and the wife for then attacking a city police officer.
Officers responded to the Bel Aire Motel on Niagara Falls Boulevard at 2 a.m. after reports of a woman, naked from the waist down, yelling for help in the parking lot. They found Shanti Narinesingh, 68, bleeding from the face with a badly swollen eye.
Kawal Narinesingh, 73, was charged with third-degree assault and harassment for allegedly hitting his wife. She was then arrested after reportedly becoming belligerent, refusing to cooperate with police and ambulance crews and then biting Officer Michael Tarnowski on the hand.
She was charged with third-degree assault, harassment and obstructing governmental administration.
Man shot after woman lets gunman into home
A West Side man was shot in his bedroom Sunday morning after the woman he was with let the gunman inside.
John A. Hunter told police he was with a woman at his home in the 300 block of 14th Street at about 3 a.m. Sunday, when she walked to the door and opened it for a man waiting outside.
Hunter tried to fight the gunman, who shot him in the left leg just below the knee, according to police reports. The gunman and the woman then ran out of the house.
Hunter was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he was recovering late Sunday, a hospital official said.
Mohr Street house damaged by fire
Buffalo fire officials still are investigating a fire in a vacant house in the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood over the weekend.
Firefighters were called to extinguish a fire at a vacant 2 1/2 -story structure at 78 Mohr St., off Broadway, just after 11 p.m. Saturday, fire officials said. Damage was estimated at $40,000.
Man robbed at gunpoint while walking on West Ave.
A Herkimer Street man was robbed at gunpoint while walking on West Avenue early Sunday morning.
The man was walking south on West at about 5:15 a.m., when he was approached by a man wearing a black hoodie and carrying a chrome handgun, according to police reports.
The victim was forced to the ground. The gunman stole his wallet, containing $150, and a pack of cigarettes before running away.
