>Driver behind wheel in ditch is arrested
A Gowanda man found sitting behind the wheel of a car in a ditch early this morning has been charged with felony driving while intoxicated, Erie County sheriff's officials said.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m., Deputy Brad Ballantyne was called to check on the occupied car in the ditch on Route 438 on the Seneca Nation of Indians territory.
Ballantyne, assisted by a Gowanda police officer, charged Ronald W. Jamieson, 36, of Route 438, with felony DWI, due to a previous drunken-driving conviction in 2006, and aggravated unlicensed operation, for driving with a revoked license, sheriff's deputies said.
Jamieson also was ticketed for failure to maintain a proper lane.
>One woman killed, another hospitalized in collision
A 71-year-old Silver Creek woman was killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash in Orchard Park that left a Hamburg woman hospitalized in fair condition, authorities said today.
Marion N. Levan was pronounced dead at the scene at Milestrip Road and Stirling Drive, following the accident at about 11:35 a.m., Orchard Park police said.
Officers said that a westbound vehicle driven by Thelma M. Hornberger, 50, of Hamburg, collided with Levan's southbound vehicle, which apparently turned from Stirling Drive.
Hornberger was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where she was listed in fair condition today.
Orchard Park police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
