Written in bold and accompanied by an exclamation point, Bonnie Mosser has a message to send out to those tracking her equestrian career: "Pan Am Games here we come!" her Web site boasts.
Mosser, originally from East Aurora and a former member of the East Aurora Pony Club, qualified for the United States Equestrian Team by winning the Jersey Fresh CCI*** in early June. Her horse, Merloch, will appear with Mosser when she travels to the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, beginning July 13. The equestrian competition will be held from July 20 to 22.
The 1980 East Aurora graduate will be one of six riders representing the United States in the 3-Day Eventing Equestrian Competition, which combines a rider's scores from a day of dressage, a day of cross country and a final day of stadium jumping.
Mosser enters the international contest after a history-making performance in Allentown, N.J. In addition to winning the 3-day event with Merloch, Mosser claimed victory in the Advanced Division on another horse, Close the Deal. She has since named Close the Deal her alternate for Brazil.
Now residing in Kennett Square, Pa., Mosser is ranked third in the United States among all Advanced Level riders -- the highest level in the sport, according to her Web site.
Mosser appears to hope the Pan Am Games serve as a stepping stone to an even greater international career. On her Web site, bonniemosser.com, she wrote that her "eyes [are] firmly set on the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Ky."
