Lily Dale plans closer town involvement

Lily Dale has formed a Community Advocacy Committee, and three of its members were on hand at Wednesday's Pomfret Town Board meeting.

Cara Seekings, one of the committee members, said during the public portion of the meeting that Lily Dale is a part of the town and its residents will be getting more involved. She said she would attend Town Board meetings on a regular basis to gather information about activities within the municipality.

Bob Ruther, another member of Lily Dale's committee, said he would also attend meetings. He said he is interested in learning how much Lily Dale residents pay in town taxes and how much they receive for their tax dollars.

A portion of Bachellor Hill Road will be dedicated to State Trooper Joseph Longobardo, who was shot and killed by fugitive Ralph "Bucky" Philips last year near that roadway. This Saturday at noon, signage will be unveiled designating that part of the road Longobardo Memorial Drive, Councilman David Kleparek said. The public is welcome to attend.

A public hearing on a proposed local law creating one streamlined set of rules and regulations for the town's special water districts will be held at 6:45 p.m. Aug. 8 in Town Hall, followed at 7 by the regular board meeting.

Currently, there are different rules and regulations for each special district, Town Supervisor Donald Steger said. The proposed law, which will create uniformity among the districts, can be reviewed in the town clerk's office.

In other business, Tom Stebbins of Horizon Wind Energy, headquartered in Houston, with a local office in Fredonia, was at the meeting to congratulate the Town Board for its "proactive" approach to wind energy with the recent passage of a local wind energy ordinance. The Town Planning Board meets at 6:30 p.m. July 24 in Town Hall to work on the town's comprehensive plan.
