>School Board veteran elected president
A longtime taxpayer supporter was elected president of the Tonawanda City School Board on Tuesday. James Weber was given the nod by his fellow members in a 4-3 vote during the board's annual reorganization meeting.
Weber, who has served on the School Board for several years and previously worked on the district's budget advisory team, is a local businessman who has earned a reputation for fiscal restraint, especially during the budget deliberation process. Weber was supported by Daniel Calabrese, Lynn Casal and Mark Flint.
Anthony Melchiorre, a longtime board member, was unanimously elected vice president. Melchiorre previously was nominated for board president but failed to gain the votes to win the seat. Both positions are one-year terms.
Two new board members were sworn in -- Casal and Charles Heylmun, who previously served on the board.
