Edward Wenzek, owner of restaurant March 31, 1920 -- July 9, 2007

Edward Wenzek, owner of the former George & Eddie's Restaurant in Buffalo, died Monday in Hawthorn Health Multicare Center. He was 87.

Mr. Wenzek graduated from East High School in 1938 and was a gunner in the Army Air Forces during World War II

He was the sole owner of George & Eddie's Restaurant in East Buffalo from 1947 to 1970.

"The restaurant was a hopping spot, from what I'm told," said daughter Cindy Reisman. "That place was his life."

Besides his daughter Cindy, surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Irene Cellini, and another daughter, Wendy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 5480 Main St., Williamsville.
