Coles, Pauly are elected to top posts on board

The Iroquois School Board this week elected William Coles president and Elaine Pauly vice president.

Because Coles was absent from the organizational meeting Monday, Pauly served as chairwoman.

Paul Pracci was named delegate to the Erie County Association of School Boards Assembly and Susan Brunner as representative to the organization's Legislative Committee.

School attorneys will be Hodgson Russ, and the insurance agent, HRH of Upstate N.Y. Inc. District auditor will remain Lumsden & McCormick LLP. School physicians are Drs. Robert and Jennifer Erickson. Cindy Sadowski will continue as secretary to the superintendent.

Board meeting dates for the school year are: Aug. 6, Sept. 10, Oct. 15, Nov. 13, Dec. 10; Jan. 7, Feb. 12, March 10, April 7, May 12, June 9 and July 1. The budget vote will be May 20. All meetings will be held in Iroquois Intermediate School with the exception of the meetings in October through March, which will be held in district schools to be named.

Assistant School Superintendent Robin Zymroz attended her last board meeting before becoming superintendent of the Akron Central School District. Zymroz has been at Iroquois for 19 years.

In a meeting after the organizational session, the board:

* Appointed Ross T. Esslinger as full-time assistant principal at the high school at an annual salary of $75,000, and Andre Jacobs, athletic director/director of physical education for the 2007-08 school year, with a stipend of $17,500.

* Authorized removing the debt service fund from building projects and placing it within the general fund to make it more streamlined. The school's auditor recommended the move.

* Approved a $28,000 contract for waste removal with Waste Management of West Seneca.

* Approved a $210,929 insurance contract from Hilb, Rogal & Hamilton Co. of upstate New York.
