URS senior land surveyor Roman H. Figler III was recently appointed, on the recommendation of the commissioner of Education and the Board of Regents, to the New York State Board for Engineering and Land Surveying for a five-year term. The board advises and assists the Board of Regents and the state Education Department on matters of professional regulation.


HealthSport Inc. appointed C.T. Moorman chairman of the newly-formed Enlyten Sports Advisory Council. HealthSport is a developer, manufacturer and marketer of branded nutritional supplements in an edible film strip delivery system. Dr. Moorman is the director of the Duke Sports Medicine Center, head team physician for Duke University Athletics and an associate professor of Orthopaedic Surgery.


Kenney Shelton Liptak Nowak partner Brian A. MacDonald recently presented a seminar on Discovery of Electronic Data at the annual meeting of the Network of Leading Law Firms in New York City.


The Buffalo Agency of Mass Mutual, led by general agents Michael J. McDermid and Joseph L. DiLeo, was awarded the Silver Bowl in the Chairman's Trophy Group Two competition. The Chairman's Trophy rewards performance of production, growth, retentions, productivity and the development of new associates. Also, McDermid and DiLeo qualified for the Crystal Achievement Award, given to agencies that produce a minimum of $3.3 million.


Cirque Niagara, a theatrical Russian cirque performance in Niagara Falls, Ont., named Molly Fitzpatrick United States corporate sales manager. Fitzpatrick formerly served as executive director for Kids Voting, interim executive director of Buffalo Alliance for Education and on the board of directors of Partners with Russia and Junior Achievement of Western New York. Cirque Niagara runs through Oct. 6 in Rapidsview Park, next to Marineland.

Energy Curtailment Specialists, a Cheektowaga-headquartered demand response provider, announced approval of its Demand Response Purchase Agreement with Pacific Gas and Electric Company by the California Public Utilities Commission. Under the agreement, ECS will provide PG&E with a minimum of 40 megawatts of electricity over the next five years.


Master Chong's World Class Tae Kwon Do, based in East Amherst, retained Manzella Marketing Group to assist in the development of the company's strategic marketing, advertising, promotion and communications programs.


Core Environmental, a Buffalo consulting firm, was awarded a $500,000 contract with Restored Homes Housing Development Fund Corp. to complete comprehensive asbestos surveys, assessments and removal design, including laboratory testing services and asbestos hazard disclosure documents. The project includes 280 one- to three-family vacant FHA foreclosed properties from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development being rehabilitated in New York City.



Merritt Estate Winery's Annual Strawberry Festival raised more than $33,000 to benefit Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller's Steadfast Foundation. The foundation provides assistance to children and young adults suffering from all forms of cancer.
