Drunken-driving charge filed against Falls man
NIAGARA FALLS -- A city man was charged with a felony driving while intoxicated early Saturday after police said he ran a red light in front of an officer.
Erwin T. Sky, 50, of Linwood Avenue was arrested at 3:39 a.m. at 19th Street and Pine Avenue, police said. He also was charged with not wearing a seat belt.
Police said Sky had been convicted to driving while impaired in 2001.
Search for runaway leads to arrest in Falls
NIAGARA FALLS -- Police who visited a Linwood Avenue home at about 5:30 p.m. Friday to search for a 15-year-old runaway ended up charging the homeowner with endangering the welfare of a child.
Benjamin E. Tracy, 56, also was charged with failure to pay a fine.
Police said they discovered the girl and smelled marijuana. The girl, who was returned to her mother, had smoked the marijuana with the homeowner and another resident, police said.
Tourism competition suspected in sign theft
NIAGARA FALLS -- Police were investigating a claim that competitive zeal might have been behind the theft of a sign Friday from the lobby of Over the Falls Tours on Rainbow Boulevard South.
Police said the 5- by 4-foot sign, valued at $221, was stolen between Wednesday and Friday. Police said an employee of the tourism firm reported some animosity with another sightseeing business.
Auto in for brake service damaged at repair shop
NIAGARA FALLS -- Damage was estimated at more than $1,500 to a 1999 Buick left at a Buffalo Avenue shop for brake service, police said Friday.
Between noon and 10 p.m., the windshield and two side windows were smashed, a side mirror broken and obscenities scratched into the paint, police said.
The car, owned by a Cayuga Village resident, had been left at the shop, in the 6900 block of Buffalo Avenue.
Traffic stop leads to unlicensed charge
NIAGARA FALLS -- Police who stopped a car about 11:42 p.m. Friday at 20th Street and Centre Avenue said the driver did not have a driver's license because he failed to pay child support.
Victor D. Lamar, 23, of Ontario Avenue, was charged with unlicensed operation, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Police said that in a search of Lamar's car they found a leather blackjack and a scale.
