Just as I was feeling guilty that April 15 is looming and I haven't finished our taxes yet, I realized that another April date of guilt is approaching -- April 26. That's Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day.
Even though I can technically arrange to bring our kids to my workplace, that's the last thing I feel like doing, so I don't tell them about it and then I feel guilty.
Yes, it's probably a laudable idea to introduce our kids to our work environments; yes, we're now more gender-sensitive and we can bring daughters and sons; yes, I believe in a family-friendly workplace. But about the last thing I want to do is bring my kids to work. My life is unbalanced enough. Can't we just give it a rest? When this event was created it was a novel idea, but do we need to continue it every year in perpetuity?
