>Gasport man accused in Home Depot theft
TOWN OF LOCKPORT -- Niagara County sheriff's investigators charged a man Monday with stealing a nail gun at Home Depot and pulling out a knife when confronted by store security.
The incident took place at the South Transit Road store just before 1 p.m., deputies said.
James J. Gould, 30, of Mill Road, Gasport, was charged with first-degree robbery. He also was charged on an outstanding warrant for grand larceny in Hamburg and possession of a hypodermic needle, deputies said.
Gould was arraigned in Town of Lockport Court before Judge Raymond E. Schilling and bail was set at $7,500 cash or $15,000 property.
A security guard at the store told deputies that he stopped Gould after he saw him put a $379 cordless nail gun under his clothing and try to leave the store.
The guard said he stopped Gould in the parking lot and Gould pulled a knife on him and the two struggled.
According to deputies, Gould lost his knife and his Dallas Cowboy's jacket in the struggle. The nail gun was also left behind. No injuries were reported.
>$10,000 damage caused by fire on Ferry Avenue
NIAGARA FALLS -- A fire in a vacant Ferry Avenue house caused about $10,000 in damage Sunday night.
Firefighters arrived just after 7:30 p.m. at the 2 1/2 -story duplex at 903 Ferry Ave. and found the second floor of the structure fully engulfed.
Four engines, three cars, Rescue 1 and a ladder truck responded. Crews were on the scene for 2 1/2 hours.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday.
>Buffalo man charged with sexual abuse
LOCKPORT -- A Buffalo man has been charged with sexually abusing a Lockport girl for two years, starting when the girl was 5, investigators said.
Timothy M. Gilpatrick Jr., 26, of Boyd Street, was charged last week by Lockport detectives with felony first-degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and felony first-degree sodomy.
The case was investigated by City of Lockport Detective Salvatore Licata and Niagara County Sheriff's Investigator Kristine Neubauer and involved a girl who was abused from 2002 to 2004 in a City of Lockport home. According to police, the girl was age 5 when the abuse began.
>Man in motel accused of endangering girl, 14
NIAGARA FALLS -- A man suspected of having a 14-year-old girl in a motel room was charged with endangering the welfare of a child on Monday, city police said.
Alonzo M. Swanson, 27, of 13th Street, was charged just before 8:30 a.m. in a motel in the 6700 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard.
Swanson had refused to open the door to family members and when police arrived the 14-year-old girl was found behind the motel and said she had jumped from the window, police reported.
A bag of marijuana was found tucked behind a wall sconce in the room, according to police.
