>School Board OKs trips for staff and students
The West Seneca School Board on Monday night approved a number of road trips this year for both staff members and students.
Upcoming trips include sending one staff member to attend the annual International Reading Conference on May 14-17 in Toronto, as well as a staff member to attend a conference on bullying in Toronto on March 26.
Another staff member received approval to attend the National Association of Music Education Biennial Conference in Hartford, Conn., March 8-13, and two staff members will go to the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Summer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah, June 29-July 2.
The board also approved an educational field trip for the East Senior varsity cheerleaders to the National Cheerleaders Association Northeast Regional Competition on March 16-18 in Albany.
In other business, the board approved the school year student calendar for 2007-08, although one board member objected to its being tied to the BOCES calendar.
Board member David G. Smaczniak told the board he had a problem with the second spring break coming at the end of April, saying it was too late in the school year. Smaczniak said he felt the break should be closer to the Easter holiday.
