Big 4 three-pointer

*Great to see the past and present joining forces at Canisius. Ray Hall sat on the bench earlier this season against Syracuse while Mike Smrek got a big hand last week in the Koessler Center against Marist, and spoke to the team after its victory. A sparkling win over the MAAC favorite on the day Darrell Barley and Micheal Meeks were inducted into the school's hall of fame was easily the best moment of coach Tom Parrotta's first season.

*Time Warner Cable won't give us ESPN U but at least its local branch is helping fill Empire's void by doing some Big 4 games. Too bad the productions have been amateurish. Incredibly, announcers were forced to sign off on the Canisius-Marist and UB-Toledo games before they were completed when the telecast hit the two-hour mark. That's inexcusable. We don't need 12 minutes of pregame chatter that includes lineups, anthems and high school TV lab graphics. It's tape delay -- show us the whole game.

*Key questions around Alumni Arena now that UB is at the bottom of the MAC: Where's the team that nearly beat Pittsburgh? Was Wednesday's 32-turnover fiasco against Toledo a white flag for the season? Is there a point guard in the house?
