Nick Mortellaro, Steve Kubante and Mike Dizak will be inducted into the Buffalo Weightlifting Hall of Fame at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hopper's Rush Inn, 2104 Seneca St.

Established in 2000, the Buffalo Weightlifting Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have had success in the areas of weightlifting, powerlifting, and body building as well as coaches and gym owners who have made significant contributions to the sport. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased at the door or by calling John Schweikhard at 913-0007 or Mike Graber at 866-6351.

BASKETBALL: The Buffalo Storm AAU Basketball Club will begin having tryouts this Sunday and on Feb. 4 for boys and girls. Tryouts for 12-and-under through 15-under girls are at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Girls 16-and-under are at 4 p.m. Sunday, both at Immaculata High School on South Park Avenue in Hamburg. Tryouts the following week for boys and girls will be posted on the organization's Web site at Call Tim Schulz at 472-5330. . . . The Niagara Police Athletic League will hold tryouts for an elite 15- and 16-and-under AAU team that will travel to college recruiting tournaments this summer. Tryouts run from 9-11 a.m. Feb. 11 at Grand Island High School. Call Jenepher Banker at 773-4905.

UMPIRING: High school and rec league umpires are needed for spring and summer. The WNY Umpires Association will hold new candidate certification clinics beginning at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 at Williamsville South High School. Call W. Gary Neunder at 691-6633 evenings or show up at the first session.
