Peter J. Becker Sr., a retired truck driver and longtime foster parent, died Saturday at his home after a long illness. He was 66.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Becker was an Army veteran and worked as a bus driver for Cataract Transit Bus Co. from 1963 to 1973. He then was a tractor-trailer driver for a Town of Tonawanda company until his retirement last year.
His wife, Janet, estimated that the Beckers took in about 100 foster children over a 25-year period. There were babies and teenagers. Some stayed for a night, others for as long as 10 years.
"I just love kids, and he did, too," she said. "We just decided to open our doors."
Mr. Becker, an outdoorsman who also enjoyed fixing cars, is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Janet Seiwell; two daughters, Darlene and Corina; and three sons, Peter, Jr., Christopher and Darryl.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Niagara Presbyterian Church, Military and Lockport roads, Niagara Falls.
