A funeral for Dr. Gary W. Ogden, Allegany County public health director, will be held at 1 p.m. today on the campus of Alfred University.
Dr. Ogden, the county's public health director for the past five years, died in his Scio home Friday after a 3 1/2 -year battle with cancer. He was 58.
A native of Jersey City, N.J., Dr. Ogden grew up on Long Island. He was a 1975 graduate of McGill University in Montreal and its Faculty of Medicine. For 20 years, he practiced as a member of the Andover Medical Group and is credited with delivering about 3,000 babies at Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville.
Dr. Ogden served on the boards of several Allegany County organizations, including Cornell Cooperative Extension and Allegany County Cancer Services Foundation. He also served as an officer of the Allegany County Medical Society.
Survivors include his wife, the former Julie Bryan; two daughters, Maggie Bryant and Amenda; and two sisters, Donna Ziminski and Denise Tenuto.
The funeral will be held in Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall, on the campus.
The Allegany County Legislature has rescheduled its meeting from 2 p.m. to 11 a.m. to accommodate those attending the funeral.
