Ruth B. Alexander of Kenmore, a dedicated volunteer, died Monday in Greenfield Health and Rehabilitation Center, Lancaster, after a long illness. She was 87.
Born Ruth Styers in Buffalo, she formed her own market research business in 1947, selling it in 1959 when she went to work as a claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance.

A firm believer in volunteerism, she received the Buffalo Area Council of Churches award for Outstanding Ecumenical and Community Service in 1996.
She was a Literacy Volunteer and served on the board of directors of the Lafayette High School Alumni Association, her local neighborhood watch, VOICE Buffalo and several Masonic organizations.
Mrs. Alexander was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for 45 years, serving on its Church Council and singing in the choir.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Hunt.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1080 Main St.
