$4.2 million to fund more housing at GCC
BATAVIA -- The Genesee Community College Foundation announced plans Friday for a $4.2 million expansion of College Village, increasing the number of one-bedroom suites to accommodate 380 students.
An additional 64 students will be housed in two new 10,500-square-foot buildings, added to the existing seven-building campus on Batavia-Stafford Townline Road. And one housing unit currently occupied by offices will be converted to accommodate 15 students.
The privately financed project is scheduled for completion by the fall, 2007 semester.
The college currently enrolls 6,500, and is attracting a growing number of out-of-area and international students. Currently, 650 students apply for housing in College Village, which can accommodate only 300.
