A memorial service for John E. Dickinson will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church of East Aurora, 9 Paine St.
Mr. Dickinson died Thursday in his Pittsford home. He was 87.
Born in South Dansville, he was a graduate of Albany Law School of Union College.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the 10th Mountain Division and on the staff of Allied Forces Headquarters in Italy, attaining the rank of captain.
He began his law practice in Buffalo with Babcock, Hollister, Newberry and Russ and was a partner in Hodgson, Russ from 1946 until his retirement in 1984; he was managing partner the last five years.
Mr. Dickinson taught banking law at Millard Fillmore College from 1948 to 1958. He served on the board of directors of the Erie County Bar Association, was chairman of the New York Bar Association State Constitutional Committee and was a delegate to the State Constitutional Convention for 1966-1967.
He was active in the Town of Aurora Republican Party and had served on the town's Board of Assessment Review.
His civic activities included serving as trustee and vice president of United Way of Buffalo & Erie County and as director and president of Goodwill Industries.
Mr. Dickinson was a trustee and elder at First Presbyterian Church of East Aurora. In retirement, he studied antebellum history and pursued outdoor life on tennis courts, ski slopes and in the Adirondacks.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Ann C. Logan; a son, Dr. John C.; a daughter, Dr. Brooke D. Durland; and a sister, Elizabeth.
