The Orchard Park Gymsters placed first in level 7 and level 4 competition and second in level 5 in the Graffiti Invitational gymnastics meet over the weekend in Niagara Falls.
Courtney Bondanza took first in all-around in level 7 while Caylee Ford and Becky Wajda were second and Lexie Schultz third. At Level 4, Samantha Miller, Brooke Delaney and Elizabeth Carpenter finished second, third and fourth in all-around while Shannon Smith and Riley Schwartzott were third at level 4.
First-place medals were won in individual events by: Laura Adinolfe (beam), Ford (bars), Vicki Samborski (beam) at Level 7; Smith (bars) at level 5 and Sarah Falzone (vault and beam), Marissa Mingarelli (floor exercise) and Miller (bars) at level 4.
The Amherst Mite Minor AAA hockey team went 5-0 with wins over four Ontario teams to win the championship of the 37th annual Wayne Gretzky International tournament in Brantford, Ont.
Walter Gretzky, Wayne's father, presented the medals at the awards ceremonies to Adam Batz, Nathan Berke, Carson Briere, Blake Flanders, Mark Gilbert, Caleb Hannon, Devin Kasperek, Jack Kelly, Camden Lock, Joey Marchese, Jordan Martin, Colton McKenna, Frankie Sciolino, Ryan Sidorski and Matt Slick, coaches John Hannon, Mark Berke, Jay Kochan and Dave Kasperek and managers Dave Flanders and John Martin.
The Family and NICYO (National Inner Cities Youth Organization) will present its third annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day free basketball clinic next Monday at the Koessler Center from 8 a.m. to noon. BASKETBALL: Cheektowaga Parks, Recreation and Youth Services will offer a four-on-four league for adults starting next week.
