$584,000 grant to aid renovation of housing
NIAGARA FALLS -- The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York has awarded $584,000 in funding for the renovation of a subsidized housing complex here.
Rep. Louise M. Slaughter, D-Fairport, said Saturday the funding will be used for a makeover of the Colt Block Apartments.
Center City Neighborhood Development Corp. sponsored the grant application by the property's owners, DeMarco Group of Rochester, according to John C. Drake, Center City president.
Drake said the grant will be applied toward planned renovations, including the conversion of the five-building, 71-unit complex from electric to natural gas heat. The residents of the structure at Main Street and Ontario Avenue, open since 1973, will not have to move during the work.
