Questions to ask

The single most important factor that determines the success of your procedure is the choice of doctor. Consider asking the following questions suggested by local and national experts.

*Do you practice cosmetic surgery exclusively?

*Are you certified to perform plastic surgery by the American Board of Medical Specialties?

*Are you a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery?

*How long have you been performing the procedure I am considering?

*Do you have hospital privileges to perform the procedure I am considering?

*What if I need a redo or touch-up procedure? Will there be additional charges?

*Can I speak with a patient who has had a similar procedure performed by you?

*Where is the surgery to be performed? Your office? Outpatient surgery center?

*If outpatient surgery center, is the facility accredited by New York State?

*What type of anesthesia will be employed? Will I be unconscious, heavily sedated or completely awake?

*Who will administer the anesthetic?

*What are the complications of this procedure? And how would they be corrected?
