Lewis clarifies terms of new CSEA contract
LOCKPORT -- Niagara County Manager Gregory D. Lewis Friday clarified figures on the retroactive lump-sum payments to be made to members of the county's largest public-employee union under terms of its new contract.
Lewis said full-time members of Civil Service Employees Association Unit 7650 will be paid $687 per year for 2003, 2004 and 2005. Part-timers will be paid $343 per year. There will be a retroactive raise of 2.5 percent for 2006 and raises of 2.5 percent for 2007 and 2008.
Lewis had said Wednesday, after the CSEA members approved the deal by a 403-347 vote, that the lump sums would be 2 percent of the employees' salary. He said Friday the lump sums equal 2 percent of the average salary of a Niagara County CSEA member, not 2 percent of each person's pay.
The County Legislature is to vote on the contract Jan. 16. The union has been working under terms of a contract that ran out at the end of 2002.
