Andrew J. Sobczyk, an executive assistant, died Friday in his Amherst home of brain cancer. He was 26.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Sobczyk was a 1998 graduate of Canisius High School and earned a bachelor's degree in 2002 from Canisius College. He had been pursuing a master's degree in business administration from Canisius.
He was executive assistant to Richard Stenclik, chairman of Superior Group, for the past two years. Before that, he worked two years as a research analyst in the local office of State Sen. Mary Lou Rath, R-Williamsville.
Mr. Sobczyk was interested in politics, and was an officer for Erie County Young Republicans and an Amherst district representative. He was a member of political science and law honor societies.
For 10 years, he was involved in raising money for cancer research through the Ride for Roswell. His interests also included cars, classical music, travel, golf, skiing and family gatherings.
He was a parishioner at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, where he was an altar server.
Survivors include his parents, Chester J. and Maryann; a sister, Amanda; and his grandparents, Henry and Florence Gajewski, and Irene.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:45 a.m. Monday in St. Gregory the Great Church, 200 St. Gregory Court, Amherst.
