It wasn't the start to conference play the University at Buffalo women's basketball team was looking for.
Miami (Ohio) erased a six-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Bulls, 42-23, in the second half en route to a 72-59 victory Wednesday night in Alumni Arena.
UB dropped to 5-8 overall while losing its Mid-American Conference opener.
The Bulls were up by as many as 14 points in the first half and suffered their first loss of the season in a game they led at halftime.
Junior Heather Turner (Mount Mercy) helped UB to the early lead, recording 14 points and eight rebounds in the first half. The Bulls shot an even 50 percent in the first half, as opposed to 28.6 percent in the second half.
However, what hurt UB more than the shooting was turnovers.
After turning the ball over just eight times in the first half, the Bulls gave the ball away 18 times in the second.
Turner finished a season-high 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting and 14 rebounds.
