The Newfane School Board, in a 5-2 vote Tuesday, hired Gary J. Pogorzelski, 54, as the district's new superintendent. He received a three-year contract.
Board members Anthony J. LaRose and Carl Stieffenhofer cast the no votes.
Board President Jamie E. Reineke said Pogorzelski will be paid $64,000 to do the job from Jan. 1 through June 30.
For the 2007-08 school year, his salary was set at $132,000 and at $137,000 for 2008-09. The salary figure for the last half-year of his contract -- July 1 through Dec. 31, 2009 -- is open to negotiation.
The new superintendent also will have the option of being covered under the school district's health insurance plan for which he will contribute 10 percent or waiving health coverage and receiving a $2,100 cash payment.
Pogorzelski resigned his job as Newfane Middle School principal. Reineke said the board expects to run a search to find a new middle school principal.
Pogorzelski succeeds James N. Mills, who retired last week.
