Angelo T. Neri, a decorated officer with the Cheektowaga Police Department, died of a heart attack Saturday in St. Joseph Hospital, Cheektowaga. He was 56.
The Buffalo native was a graduate of Riverside High School and Buffalo State College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
He began his career with the Cheektowaga Police Department in September 1977 and received several letters of commendation and citation, including one for his police work following the 1994 slayings of two rival motorcycle gang leaders at Lancaster Speedway.
Mr. Neri retired from police work in September but continued to work part time as a security officer in Cheektowaga Town Court.
He was married for more than 20 years to Barbara J. Truesdell Neri, who died in 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Vincent and Nicholas, and a brother, Charles R.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 950 Losson Road, Cheektowaga, after prayers at 9:15 in Barron-Miller Funeral Home, 3025 William St., Cheektowaga.
