Patrick J. Doyle of Buffalo, a retired Bethlehem Steel Corp. worker, died Saturday in Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. He was 88.
Born in County Meath, Ireland, he lived in London and served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. In 1949, he moved to Canada and was married in Crystal Beach, Ont.
Mr. Doyle moved to Buffalo in 1951 and worked in the Lackawanna steel plant until retiring in 1976.
In retirement, he enjoyed fishing and carpentry. He volunteered as a handyman at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where he had been a parishioner since 1951 and attended daily Mass.
His wife of 52 years, Mary Rose Cronyn Doyle, died in 2002.
Surviving are two sons, Peter of West Seneca and Thomas of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Anna of Honolulu and Kathy Bialy of Orchard Park; and eight grandchildren.
Prayers will be said at 8:45 a.m. Thursday in Nightengale Funeral Home, 1884 South Park Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Ambrose Church, 65 Ridgewood Road. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.
